Facing challenges such as weakened domestic demand in the steel market and intense competition internationally, Chinese steel companies have actively adjusted their strategies to increase export efforts. According to the latest statistics released by the General Administration of Customs, in December 2024, China's steel exports reached 9.727 million tons, a 4.8% increase from the previous month, adding 449,000 tons. Looking at the full year, China exported a total of 110.716 million tons of steel in 2024, marking a 22.7% increase compared to the same period last year. This achievement signifies that China's steel exports have surpassed the 100-million-ton mark for the first time, setting a new record high since 2016.

A Look Back at China's Steel Export Performance Over the Past Four Years:

- 2020: Despite some fluctuations at the beginning of the year, overall stability was maintained, especially with March achieving the highest monthly export volume of 6.476 million tons.

- 2021: As the global economy began to recover, China’s steel exports performed well, peaking in April with 7.973 million tons.

- 2022: Amidst slowing global economic growth, China managed to maintain stable steel exports, with May recording the largest single-month export of 7.759 million tons.

- 2023: Steel exports continued to grow steadily, hitting a peak of 8.356 million tons in May.

- 2024: Building on previous momentum, China established a new record in November, exporting 11.182 million tons, while February marked the lowest point of the year at 7.17 million tons.

Remarkably, China's steel exports exceeded those of the corresponding months from 2020 to 2023 for every month in 2024, demonstrating robust growth. As the world's largest exporter of steel, China holds approximately 23.4% of the global steel trade. The data trend from 2020 to 2024 clearly shows an upward trajectory in China's steel exports, which will contribute to the healthy development of China's steel industry in 2025 and solidify its position in the global market.

This sustained outperformance not only underscores the resilience and adaptability of China's steel sector but also highlights its significant role in global supply chains. With this strong foundation, China is poised to further influence the global steel market positively in the coming years.
